Toranla: We live and celebrate !!

Like any other national festivals in Nepal, Toranla is a yearly festival that is celebrated with lots of color and enthusiasm among Thakali people. This festival falls during the month of March as per English calender, whereas in the month of Chaitra in Nepali calender. Toranla is basically the festival to remember our ancestors and pay homage to their departed soul. Importantly, we remember their deeds, because of which we are where we stand today. This festival is dearly important for Thakali cultural heritage to grow and flourish as time matures like Kali Gandaki river flows for eternity. This is a period of celebration, when all relatives come together with their CHELIS. We celebrate the festival with colors and joy, while all active members from each family represent themselves playing bow and arrow, while women sit together with friends & seniors and play "Naka Bhote". I am of the opinion that this festival keeps us connected so, Toranla is our cultural heritage of celestial importance, all youths of today have to dearly preserve and celebrate to their fullest. More than ever, i feel, youths today has to work hard in the field of business, socio - cultural arena, academics and social security to protect our community from all kind of onslaughts that can affect each of us. Finally, Happy Toranla to all Thakali people ! May this festival bring good health, happiness and prosperity !! Thank you, Thasang Samajik Sanjal Team
