Thakali Youths: You are wanted !!

Since this blog writes on anything related to Thakali, especially  Youths, Thasang Samajik Sanjal is rooted on what I have felt myself as a Thakali youth and  my deep personal thoughts on how we should move forward, if we are to excel in 21st century. We all youths strongly believe in our ancient socio - cultural roots in Thak Khola. This connection is deep seated in us, wherever we go, be it west or some other Asian countries. Since I was brought up and raised in a rural background near to Thak Khola, I had every opportunity to closely observe Thakali people and their day to day activities.  i am proud to be Thakali but up till when? This is my question to all. I understand, it is always easy to raise questions, but it is always hard when you need to contribute at personal level. There is a famous saying, "Ask not what your country gave you, ask yourselves what have you contributed for your country?" We can relate this saying to our own community. Therefore, i would like to present SWOT analysis before coming up with relevant question and possible areas, where can and are contributing as of now.

Strength (S)

  • A community with entrepreneurial capability
  • High literacy rate
  • Business minded
  • Can raise "Capital" required for investment
  • Human resource
  • Team work

Weakness (W)

  • Not focused
  • Very much influenced by national level socio - economic climate
  • Very less presence in government /representation in politics
  • Out migration of Youths to other countries
  • Poor system of mentoring / on job training / leadership

Opportunity (O)

  • Joint Investment - Capital
  • Cooperative - cultural
  • Human resource
  • Social network

Threat (T)

  • National politics
  • Out migration of Youths in search of better education & job, and settle there
  • Disintegration of family values
  • Value of education - how are we taking?

I put forward this SWOT analysis for each of us to look into and think about it. Therefore i will not extend this point in detail now, but i leave this task to ponder on all of you. It is only then we can self evaluate how we have contributed to conserve and strengthen Thakali socio - cultural values of cohesiveness and able management. Finally, TIME is the only limiting resource for all of us  and that is only 24 hours per day - no more, no less. It is up to us, how wisely we can harvest fruits from it. Decision is up to us - whether you want to be a beggar or next Bill Gates? Sky is the limit, so do not complain to your community or parent !!

Lies can't withstand Truth: DiL Shova didi versus "Liars"

Everywhere, be it in online newspaper or facebook, everybody is talking, writing or complaining about "injustice" to Dil Shova didi. I do not know nitty gritty of what actually happened on that fateful day. But from what we have been reading amply proves that Dil Shova didi is innocent by all possible argument. Now, I do not want to go to details what were the events that led to this sad and unfortunate event. This is so nauseating, I do not even want to think of it. Now, all words would go in vain when you analyse the gravity of this situation. Everybody is affected by this events !!

Dil Shova didi caring needy in her home

In nutshell, this is nothing other than the exact mirror image of our prevailing socio - political climate of our country. So, all of us are responsible for this event to take place after all "so called" leaders, political system, bureaucracy and knowledge opinion leaders (KOL) are product of this society. Therefore, somebody rightly said, " If source is contaminated by "ills", then what do you expect from it !!". And this is the exact situation that we are going through.

However, we also should remember on a flip side that "every cloud has a sliver lining". Let us hope that our government and all citizens will do away with this kind of "professional malpractices" and no stone will be left un-turned !! After, we have peacefully dealt with terror of "bullets". Now, it is only the terror of "words" from house of lies. These lies will just crumble because truth is too powerful for it to handle.

Why We Need to Read, Write and Communicate more?

I propose simple principles for us to move forward in social, economic and political landscape anywhere. Upfront, I would like to make myself clear that principles are self explanatory and each of us aware of it. However, my observation is that we need to excel and take ACTION on it. There is no short cut to hard work, perseverance and collaborative effort. First and foremost, let me come back to those principles, i would re - iterate time and then in my blog.

  1. Read Read and Read
  2. Write Write and Write
  3. Collaboration Collaboration and Collaboration
So these are so simple, no more fancy words. Though, I say this is simple and simple to remember, you need hard work and dedication for these principle to be part of your routine.

A question may come, why I bring this principle as an intellectual exercise among us? It is primarily because of my observations I made while in Nepal and outside of country. We know that history is enough to teach us those simple principles and put it in our practice. People tend to forget history easily and only remember the emotional part most of the time, even forgetting very essence of positive learning. So I would like to stress more on present rather than past. By talking and acting in present, future is for us to experience as it comes.

Read Read and Read

My first question !! Do we have enough reading culture. Definitely not !! We need to improve on it. We have many learned individuals in our society. They can be a role model to our younger generation by organizing literary gatherings where they can exchange and learn from each other. Various festivals can be used as an opportunity for all of us to be more creative and educational , rather than only sticking to cultural aspects.

Write Write and Write

One thing i have to agree that our guardians have tried to encourage reading and writing since they understood its value. Yearly magazine "Falo" is one testimony and we should not take it lightly. We should treasure this publication very dearly. Another important point that I can proudly state here is that we have established literary figure like Bhupi. He has been always a role model for all Nepali. There are also new budding poets, novelists and writers. We are always eager to hear more from them. But still, there is much to be done, if we want to establish ourselves at national and international arena. I strongly believe, we can do and we have character for it.

Collaboration Collaboration and Collaboration

It is only in unity, we all can grow so we create a conducive environment for  our talents and capability us to flourish. It is only in collaboration that we can recognize those talents and encourage them to come forward. Therefore, we have a role to nurture these incipient natural gifts to flower and contribute in spheres of social market. I strongly believe, each of us is born with gifts and require only right environment for it to grow. There should not be distinction based on prevalent "divided" thought process of Nepali socio - political cultural dogma. We must be very careful of its influence and act fast on it and for this, healthy collaboration is need of the hour more than ever.

Random thoughts

For few days, I am playing with an idea, "what does it mean to be judged based on his / her background?" The background could be anything from family, color, race or nationality and so on. I am bound to think about it, when someone has to face such a situation, when we notice a clear distinction in behavior towards you based on your color or language or nationality. I am sorry, I am ruminating such thoughts, which you may think - waste of time. But, you may come across such subtle incident and unknowingly you feel pinched. This happens many times within your country or outside mostly in immigration.

Few days back, a friend of mine from Africa had to face such an incident. I also vividly remember one such incident in a popular TV show where singing star Mr. Tamang had to face !! I ask again why such irritation should take place? Uhhmm.. when you start think about it in retrospective, you may get answer and start to develop conviction. I feel , such incidents happen, when people fail to recognize core value of love and kindness. And such people may not be exposed to real life situation of how others feels or go through. In simple word, we may lack EMPATHY. In addition, this kind of cold behavior could be the outcome of environment or his/ her nascent personality. As an example, it could be just because you grew up in wealthy community, where you do not have to think of daily necessities and mostly, pampered. In some cases, it could be his / her cold temperament. Whatever may be the reason, I feel there is strong need for induction of social values such as respect for diversity among people of different faith / color / languages / nationalities and have compassion towards fellow beings. We also know that this starts from your school, home and community. There lies answer for all these happenings so, solution for this behavior could be education and cross - cultural dialogue.

For today, I feel a bit lighter and relieved. At least i managed to vomit out and write my feeling so i can be creative instead of suffering to myself in negative spiral of anxiety and boiling anger. I also like to look into this kind of happening in perspective before coming into any conclusion. First thing we can do is ignore, or if you cannot do so, then have compassion towards his / her ignorance, smile and forget it. If you are brave enough to tackle the situation then face it and explain it. Here i would like to share a pictorial story of blind men and an elephant. In short, message of the story is in one word: PERSPECTIVE
